Mishima (三島村 Mishima-mura ) is a village made up of islands located in Kagoshima District, Kagoshima, Japan. The village office is located at Kagoshima City outside the village.
As of 2008, the village has an estimated population of 427 and the density of 13.6 persons per km². The total area is 31.36 km².
Mishima means three islands: Iōjima, Kuroshima and Takeshima.
These islands originally belonged to Kawanabe District of Satsuma Province. They were then transferred to Ōshima District of Kagoshima Prefecture in 1897. In 1908 Jittō Village (literally, ten islands) was established as a municipality covering the modern-day Mishima and Toshima Villages.
In 1946, the southern seven of the ten islands were put under the administration of the United States and isolated from Japan, so that the remaining three islands formed a tentative Mishima Village. In 1952, when the seven islands were returned to Japan, Jittō Village was officially divided into Toshima Village and Mishima Village. In 1973, two villages were transferred to Kagoshima District.
